Overview
Intellectual Property Litigation
Nick represents clients in intellectual property disputes in federal trial courts and before the International Trade Commission. He has represented both petitioners and patent owners in trial proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, as well as appeals of those proceedings to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Patent Management
Nick counsels clients on patent law in mechanical and electronic technologies, including prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He advises clients on the management of international patent portfolios, freedom-to-operate investigations, and infringement and validity opinions. Nick manages relationships with clients around the world, including in Japan, Sweden and Switzerland.
Prior to his law career, Nick worked as a mechanical engineer assisting in the design of transmission control units in the automotive group of Motorola Inc.

- Represented a leading manufacturer of consumer electronic products in patent matters before the District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the District Court for the District of Columbia, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the Federal Circuit
- Represented a chemical company in the field of chemical additives in asphalt in a patent infringement matter before the District of Delaware
- Represented a software company in the field of radiation therapy treatment planning in a patent infringement matter before the District of Maryland
- Represented a vehicle head unit maker in a patent infringement matter seeking exclusion of a large segment of automobiles from the United States before the U.S. International Trade Commission
- Represented a leading manufacturer of oral health care materials and devices in a patent-infringement matter seeking exclusion of dental implants from the United States before the U.S. International Trade Commission
- Represented an electronics company in a patent-infringement matter involving Blu-ray disc players before the U.S. International Trade Commission
