Greg Abrams Weighs in on Upcoming Wage-and-Hour Issues for Employers

Business Insurance

Business Insurance reports that employers are expected to face significant litigation over wage-and-hour disputes because of the complex issues — and equally complex federal, state and local regulations — that they must deal with as they bring employees back to the workplace or firm up plans to have them remain working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the article, “Wage and hour litigation issues loom for employers,” the insurance industry publication turned to labor & employment partner Greg Abrams for insight on the possible litigation threats to employers.

Business Insurance mentions that although the Fair Labor Standards Act essentially governs federal issues, state laws are often more stringent and present a daunting challenge to multistate employers.

Abrams highlighted that the cost of class actions can be quite expensive for employers. The law allows liquidated damages he added, “which can be double the amount of unpaid wages,” as well as attorney’s fees.
