In a post for Health Affairs Blog, Faegre Drinker Consulting Principal Michael Adelberg and Melissa Garrido, Associate Director of the Partnered Evidence-Based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) at the VA Boston Healthcare Service, highlight how the health care industry could see an unprecedented surge of scams and fraud in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They write that following the surge of COVID-19 infections, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and state Medicaid programs should conduct outlier analyses to identify areas where fraud and waste probably occurred; targeted auditing and investigation will be warranted.
