Background Memo: Dr. Scott Gottlieb, FDA Commissioner

Scott Gottlieb was confirmed by the Senate as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration on May 9 by a vote of 57 to 42. Commissioner Gottlieb, a physician and venture capitalist, served as a deputy FDA commissioner and was a high-ranking official at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services during the George W. Bush administration.

Our team has prepared a background memorandum on Commissioner Gottlieb that includes an overview of his career, his on-the-record expressed opinions on relevant topics, such as prescription drug pricing, ACA reform and the opioid crisis, as well as the response to his nomination from Congress and other stakeholders.

The District Policy Group continues to closely monitor high-level executive branch nominations and appointments, and keep clients apprised of the latest news concerning the Trump administration.
