District Policy Group Background Memo on Wilbur Ross, Secretary of Commerce

Wilbur Ross was confirmed by the Senate as the Secretary of Commerce on February 21 by a vote of 72 to 27. As an international private equity investor, Wilbur Ross is best known for purchasing and reviving severely distressed companies, including several steelmakers in the early 2000s. Ross is a critic of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and was nominated by the Trump administration team to be “the administration’s leader on setting many of our trade priorities.”

Our team has prepared a background memorandum on Secretary Ross that includes an overview of his career, his on-the-record expressed opinions on relevant topics such as trade and regulation, and the response to his nomination from Congress and other stakeholders. The District Policy Group continues to closely monitor high-level executive branch nominations and appointments, and keep clients apprised on the latest news involving the Trump administration.
