Copyright Permissions and Social Media 2019

Washington, D.C. associate Jennifer Criss spoke at a CLE program for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute titled “Copyright Permissions and Social Media 2019” on September 17, 2019. Jennifer was joined by Franklin Graves, Commercial Counsel at Eventbrite, Nancy Wolff, Partner at Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard, LLP, and Roger LaLonde, IP Associate at Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC. The program was offered live in Philadelphia and simulcast to PBI’s locations in Pittsburgh and Mechanicsburg. It was also recorded for future On-Demand access.

With the increasing infringement of copyright works in social media, clients and their employees can easily misunderstand the use of online works and how to receive permissions. In this course, Jennifer guided attendees in obtaining permission for use of copyrighted online works with a focus on social media. The panelists also discussed assignment and licensing issues of online works and copyright issues concerning Terms of Use agreements.
