Janet Fries Speaks on WAMU’s 1A

Overview

Washington, D.C. of counsel Janet Fries spoke on the radio show titled “1A,” which is produced by WAMU and distributed nationally by NPR, on July 8, 2019. In this episode of 1A, the speakers discussed the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit that was scheduled to be on display at the Corcoran Gallery 30 years ago, but abruptly cancelled, and the backlash the Corcoran has been dealing with ever since. 1A discusses important issues including policy, politics, and technology as well as pop culture, sports, and humor. The name of the show is inspired by the First Amendment and celebrates free speech and the importance of spoken word.

In addition to the host, Joshua Johnson, other speakers included Sanjit Sethi, the Director of the Corcoran, and Matthew Billy, who produces a podcast called Bleeped.
