The Economics of Patent “Value”

Overview

On April 29, 2019, DC partner and co-chair of the IP group Bob Stoll spoke at the Federal Circuit Bar Association 2019 Global Series in Washington, DC. Bob’s a panel, “The Economics of Patent ‘Value,’” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar, Partner, Boehmert & Boehmert. Also on the panel were Lee Godown, Vice President, Global Markets – Policy, General Motors; Anna Wu, Chairperson, Competition Commission of Hong Kong; Michael Sandonato, Partner, Venable Fitzpatrick; and Laura Sheridan, Senior Patent Counsel, Google, Inc. Bob discussed the importance of patent quality and different economic methods for valuing patents as well as important considerations when a particular patent is evaluated. More than 100 attorneys attended.

Recognized as a leading senior-level global dialogue on fundamental challenges in commerce, trade, and intellectual property, the Global Series 2019 has two components: The Washington session explored the key global challenges presented to the world's innovation, IP and trade systems; with those insights, the Hawaii session (October 2019) will engage the challenges in more detail, responding to rapidly emerging national and international focal points in these sectors.
