Janet Fries Presented to Students at George Mason University’s Graduate School of Arts Management on First Amendment Legal Issues and the Arts

Overview

On November 6, 2019, D.C. of counsel Janet Fries presented to George Mason University graduate students studying in the MA Arts Management program on legal issues in the arts. Janet focused on how the First Amendment has been applied in cases involving art, including court decisions relating to assertions of obscenity and violation of privacy. Janet’s presentation was one installment of a semester-long, outside speaker series focused on current issues facing the arts management profession. The MA in arts management program at George Mason University in Arlington, VA is a response to a demand for graduates who can manage and coordinate the arts, bridging the worlds of performing and visual arts with applied managerial skills. The DMV, as the Washington, DC region is called, is home to one of the nation’s largest concentrations of arts organizations.
