Jessica Barth Bolsters FaegreBD's Health Care and FDA Group

Jessica Barth has joined Faegre Baker Daniels’ health care and FDA group, where she will practice as counsel in the firm’s Indianapolis-96th Street office.

An associate with the firm from 2001 to 2004, Barth returns to FaegreBD after a 13-year tenure as chief counsel at Ezkenazi Health, one of the largest public health systems in the United States. From that experience, Barth knows firsthand that health systems have to adapt constantly to a changing environment. She will advise health care providers on a wide range of matters, with a focus on avoiding risk and identifying and correcting potential problems before they emerge.

Barth's legal expertise encompasses regulatory concerns that health care stakeholders face almost daily. She will provide guidance on nearly all matters related to hospitals and health systems, including contracting, risk management, governance and employment law. In addition, she will help clients on compliance matters related to a variety of health care laws and regulations, including health care consent laws, provider-based billing regulations and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. Finally, as a member of the firm’s public law and finance team, Barth brings focused expertise to the unique needs of city, county and other governmentally controlled health care facilities.

During her time as chief legal counsel, Barth helped steer Ezkenazi Health through significant growth and regulatory change. She managed all legal aspects of the construction of a new $754 million hospital campus; negotiated and drafted a comprehensive agreement for physician services for the health system, including specific performance metrics; and provided counsel on an agreement to merge two ambulance services into a new emergency medical services agency. She also established the Ezkenazi Health Medical Legal Partnership, which works to improve health outcomes by addressing the civil legal issues and underlying social factors that affect patients’ health. In 2015, Barth was named as an Indianapolis Business Journal Woman of Influence.

Barth received her law degree, summa cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, a master’s in English literature from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s in English literature and French from Indiana University-Bloomington.
