Faegre Baker Daniels is pleased to announce that Jim Spaanstra has returned to the firm’s environmental practice and energy and natural resources industry team after completing a one-year term as executive director for Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO). A nationally recognized environmental and natural resources lawyer, Spaanstra will practice as of counsel in the firm’s Denver and Washington, D.C. offices.
In addition to continuing his environmental law practice, Spaanstra will work with colleagues at Faegre Baker Daniels Consulting to develop and execute government relations services for clients with public policy and regulatory needs. He also will leverage his public sector experience to expand the firm’s national public-private partnership (P3) services that implement infrastructure recycling projects throughout the U.S.
Spaanstra has practiced environmental law and represented clients in the energy, natural resources and environmental services industries for nearly four decades — including a 17-year tenure with FaegreBD, during which he led the firm’s energy and natural resources industry team. A long-time member of the GOCO Board, in April 2016 Spaanstra was selected to lead the organization on an interim basis as it searched for a permanent executive director. GOCO invests Colorado Lottery proceeds to protect and improve the state’s trails, wildlife, rivers and open spaces.
Spaanstra earned his law degree at the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor’s degree at Grand Valley State University.
