Partner Lowell Haines to Become President of Taylor University

Faegre Baker Daniels partner and nonprofit team leader Paul Lowell Haines will become the next president of Taylor University.

Haines assumes the post following an extensive search by Taylor for its next leader. He is an alumnus of the school and began his professional career at the Indiana-based Christian college before earning his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

“The Presidential Search Committee undertook a nationwide search with the assistance of CarterBaldwin, a search firm with wide experience in higher education,” said Mark D. Taylor, Chairman of the Taylor Presidential Search Committee. “We evaluated nominations and applications from many wonderful candidates. And in the end, we landed in our own backyard. Lowell Haines has served on our Board of Trustees for 13 years, and he was elected Vice Chair in May. We are very pleased that our top candidate is already so closely attuned to Taylor University and everything it represents.”

During his career with FaegreBD, Haines provided general legal services to organizations exempt from federal and state income taxes. His clients have included a number of prominent colleges and universities, as well as churches and faith-based organizations, private foundations, museums, and public charities of all types. He provided extensive guidance on nonprofit organization legal issues confronting such institutions, including incorporation, application for exemption, negotiations with the Internal Revenue Service, private ruling requests and similar matters.

“Lowell has been an exceptional colleague, leader and friend to all of us at Faegre Baker Daniels for many years,” said Tom Froehle, FaegreBD’s chief operating partner. “He is an outstanding lawyer and has committed his career to serving nonprofit organizations. That, combined with his love for Taylor University, makes him a perfect fit to serve as President. We wish him our very best on this new adventure.”
