The national listing ranks firms based on criteria such as maternity and paternity leave, child care, and alternative work arrangements. Data was collected from the National Association of Law Placement directory.

Yale Law Women, the largest student organization at Yale Law School, partnered with the Women's Law School Coalition, an affiliation of women's law student organizations at several major law schools, to determine the 2007 list.
