Our firm created a diverse advocacy coalition committed to eliminating unsafe medical practices across the health care system. Our firm connected patients to stakeholders in the creation and execution of a large-scale public health and awareness campaign by a federal agency. With stakeholders ranging from industry leaders to health care providers, the campaign focuses on educating the public about specific medical errors.
Our firm raised the issue of patient advocacy on the national policy stage by securing a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study of the problem, collaborating with the National Quality Forum (NQF) to augment its list of Serious Reportable Events (SREs) involving medical errors, and working with Congress and the administration to highlight coalition issues as they address broad range medical errors. These efforts resulted in the inclusion of unsafe medical practices in the Health and Human Services (HHS) Action Plans and Healthy People 2020, as well as incorporation into the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Safe Use Initiative's project portfolio.
