John R. Wheaton



John Wheaton helps clients plan and execute commercial real estate projects and transactions to drive their business forward. He represents buyers, sellers, lenders, developers, tenants and non-profits in a wide variety of commercial real estate transactions. He has helped major corporations expand across national borders, and his experience encompasses a diverse spectrum of projects across various industries, from manufacturing plants to health centers to food supply facilities.
John assists clients in virtually every aspect of commercial real estate, including:

John has extensive experience in dealing with financially distressed real estate projects, real estate litigation, foreclosures, receiverships, projects involving significant public financial inducements, and projects involving complex co-ownership, control and income sharing arrangements. John served on a state bar association subcommittee that drafted legislation and led a successful effort making significant changes to Minnesota's foreclosure laws.


John has given dozens (and dozens) of presentations on a broad range of real estate topics to trade associations and at local and national advanced legal education seminars. His programs have covered ground leases, foreclosures, workouts, receiverships, leasehold mortgages, tax issues arising in real estate transactions, title insurance, easements, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, indemnity provisions in real estate agreements, options and rights of first refusal, construction contracts and architect's agreements, and many other topics.
