A former policy advisor to federal government agencies and elected officials, Sarah-Lloyd Stevenson helps health and life sciences stakeholders advance policy goals before Congress and federal agencies. Having worked to draft, enact and gain support for health laws and policies at the highest levels of federal government, Sarah-Lloyd delivers policy advocacy strategies informed by firsthand experience getting results in Washington, D.C.

White House Policy Advisor

Prior to joining Faegre Drinker Consulting, Sarah-Lloyd served as policy advisor to the White House’s Domestic Policy Council and its Office of Science and Technology Policy. She provided policy reports, recommendations and updates to the West Wing on a daily basis. Among other accomplishments, she led the collaboration between the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to prepare pediatric cancer language that President Trump used in the 2019 State of the Union Address — and played a similar role in the subsequent budget proposal and initiative.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Policy Advisor

As policy advisor at HHS, Sarah-Lloyd gained insight into the agency processes and collaborations that drive health policy. She reviewed, edited, and approved agencies’ regulations, funding opportunity announcements, reports, budget documents, press pieces, and other correspondences. She worked with various agencies, including:

  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
  • Indian Health Service (IHS)
  • Administration for Community Living (ACL)
  • Administration for Children and Families (ACF)
  • Office of Global Affairs (OGA)

Senate Legislative Assistant

Sarah-Lloyd’s policy career began in the office of Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), where she served as a key advisor on domestic and global health policy. She was involved in drafting and enacting provisions of the following pieces of legislation:

  • National Pediatric Research Network Act
  • Muscular Dystrophy Community Assistance, Research and Education Amendments to 2014 MD CARE Act
  • Ensuring Useful Research Expenditures Is Key for Alzheimer’s (EUREKA) Act
  • Patient Focused Impact Assessment Act

  • CONNECT for Health Act
