Emily D. Steeb

Emily advises local, national and international product manufacturers on resolving complex disputes in and out of court at the state and federal levels. She focuses her practice on pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and she has represented manufacturers of orthopedic implants, pelvic mesh, laser therapy systems, inferior vena cava filters, and heater-cooler devices. Emily has supported these types of manufacturers in all phases of product liability litigation, from pre-suit negotiations through trial. Her experience includes strategic analysis; drafting written discovery and facilitating document production; expert witness procurement and development; taking and defending depositions of fact, expert and corporate witnesses; briefing dispositive and other pre-trial motions; oral argument; mediation; and settlement negotiations.

Expert Witnesses

Emily has a passion for learning the science behind her clients’ products, and she understands that the science can make or break a case. She works closely with experts in various disciplines — such as orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, pathology, biomedical engineering and economics — to strengthen clients’ cases. Emily enjoys helping experts distill complicated opinions into relatable concepts that juries can easily digest. She has experience working with experts through report preparation to deposition and trial. Emily also has significant experience briefing Daubert and Frye motions related to several different expert witness specialties.

Trial Experience

Emily has been involved in multiple bellwether trials — including crafting strategy for bellwether selection during the pre-trial phase — during multidistrict mass tort litigation related to inferior vena cava filters. On these trial teams, Emily played a key role in preparing expert witnesses, particularly physicians, to help support clients’ arguments. She has experience preparing corporate representatives for trial. Emily has also been involved in preparing pelvic mesh, orthopedic implant and heater-cooler device cases for trial.
