Brian C. Rupp



Brian Rupp is a highly regarded patent practitioner and legal strategist and an experienced in-house and outside patent counsel. Brian’s technical background in physics and electrical engineering gives him a significant edge in matters relating to electronics and software technology. His work advising recognized global innovators provides him with unique insights into the intersection of intellectual property and international commerce.

Over the course of a career spanning three decades, Brian has advised some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated companies on critical patent disputes and litigation management, IP procurement strategy, licensing, technology development and corporate transactions. Brian provides in-depth counsel on a full spectrum of patent matters, including:

In the mid-90s, while on a four-year leave from the firm, Brian lived in Korea while serving as patent counsel for Samsung Display Devices (now Samsung SDI) and Samsung Aerospace Industries (now merged into Samsung Electronics). In this capacity, he was responsible for intellectual property matters, including litigation, licensing, patent prosecution and collaborative technology relationships. As the sole in-house IP attorney for the two companies at a critical juncture in their histories, Brian traveled around the world developing key relationships in the Korean business community — relationships that continue to this day.

Personal Interests

Brian and his wife live in Naperville, IL. He enjoys golfing, traveling, digital photography and building computers.
