Anabel Abarca

Anabel Abarca partners with real estate and construction stakeholders to resolve disputes and mitigate exposure to risk, always striving to provide practical, value-oriented strategies that advance clients’ business goals. Anabel draws on experience working on real estate, construction and land use issues in both the private and public sector, and she brings a well-rounded view of the legal, transactional, regulatory and other challenges and opportunities that shape every real estate and construction project.

Prior Experience

Before joining Faegre Drinker, Anabel served as assistant corporate counsel at a Chicago-based real estate developer of mixed-use housing and commercial spaces, with a particular focus on affordable and low-income tax credit housing programs. In this role, she conducted legal and transactional oversight of various projects and properties, including drafting, negotiating and reviewing real estate finance, construction, lending and closing documents related to a $82 million 400+ unit multi-family housing development.

Prior to pursuing a career in law, Anabel served as chief of staff to Chicago City Council Alderman George Cardenas, in which she led all ward zoning and land use issues, worked with real estate developers to navigate municipal processes necessary for their commercial and residential developments, and helped developers understand and avoid city violations.

Anabel also previously served as a Legislative Aide/Latino Coordinator to Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05). In law school, Anabel served as a Legal Extern to Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne M. Burke and Legal Extern to the Chicago Board of Elections Commissioners.

Personal Interests

Anabel enjoys riding all three of her motorcycles across the country and takes racing courses. She has two chihuahuas, Pacho and Panda, who prefer four feet on the ground. Anabel enjoys knitting.
