In a video for Ignites, investment management counsel Walé Oriola spoke to the publication about his experience as a former senior counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Division of Investment Management’s Rulemaking Office and provided insights on how the SEC approaches Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) matters.
Oriola explained that, since regulating funds that incorporate ESG factors is a new area, any rules from the SEC will be “fair and balanced.”
“I think because this is a very new area, and everyone is learning on the go, I do think the commission will be fair over the types of rules that will come out in the ESG arena,” said Oriola.
