According to Bloomberg Law, an association of state drinking water officials is proposing alternatives as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prepares to write regulations for water system cybersecurity protection measures. Paul Luehr, partner and co-leader of Faegre Drinker’s privacy and cybersecurity team, spoke to the publication about cybersecurity in the water sector.
The concerns show the need for local, state and federal officials to coordinate as the EPA signals that cybersecurity needs to be a part of regular water system safety and compliance checks, said Luehr. “Local officials are throwing up the flag saying, ‘We can’t do this alone. We don’t have the expertise,’” he added.
