Are Health Systems and Private Equity Firms Adversaries or Unlikely Allies?

Indianapolis Business Journal

Health care partner Isaac Willett authored an article for Indianapolis Business Journal that discusses the relationship between hospitals and health systems and health care private equity firms.

Willett explains that private equity firms have played an active role in the health care industry for decades, positioning themselves as competitors to hospitals. He adds that, recently, health care private equity funds have devoted their capital to physician practice acquisition, resulting in significant consolidation in certain medical specialties.

Willett provides examples of how heath systems and private equity firms can have a mutually beneficial relationship, and he notes that if they put these principles into action, opportunities for collaboration will arise exponentially.
