In “MAOs Face Payment-Related Unknowns, Increased Competition,” AIS Health’s RADAR on Medicare Advantage publication turned to Faegre Drinker Consulting Principal Mike Adelberg for insight on what Medicare Advantage organizations (MAO) might face when doing business in 2022.
First, Adelberg outlined four of the biggest challenges or uncertainties for MAOs in the coming year from his perspective, such as whether and how the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services seek to extrapolate risk adjustment audits.
Next, the publication asked, “What do you view as MA insurers’ ʻkeys to success’ in 2022?” Adelberg highlighted the need for continuous improvement, including delivering high-value care and correctly coding and documenting that care, as well as innovating benefits and services in increasingly competitive markets.
Regarding critical investments he expects MA insurers to make this year and why, Adelberg said, “An arms race is underway in benefits,” and emphasized the importance of integrating newer benefits into care management strategies.
