Back to the Future: Medicare Advantage Compliance Policies and Processes That the Biden Administration May Revisit

Faegre Drinker Consulting Principal Mike Adelberg and Kristin B. Rodriguez, chief operating officer at Health Plan Alliance, authored an article for Compliance Today, sharing takeaways on policy changes related to the Medicare Advantage (MA) program and what to expect from the Biden administration.

Adelberg and Rodriguez described how the MA program had rapid growth and record-high member satisfaction recently. They also detailed how MA plans offer Medicare beneficiaries a compelling value proposition.

Additionally, the authors discussed seven Trump administration policy changes that facilitated growth in the MA program and six program areas that the Biden administration will likely revisit. For example, MA plan sponsors are likely to see tighter regulation and stepped-up enforcement in key program areas: risk adjustment, provider networks, marketing and more.

Overall, the authors stated that MA would remain a growing program, but plan sponsors will need to review and tighten their practices ahead of stepped-up oversight.
