Bob Stoll Quoted in Law360 on Andrei Iancu’s First Year at the USPTO

Washington, D.C., partner and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Group Bob Stoll was quoted in the Law360 article titled “Duck in Water: A Look at Iancu’s First Year atop the USPTO.” The article discussed Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Andrei Iancu’s first year in office. Iancu has been working to advance his agenda and push revisions to the patent system via a hands-on approach and willingness to look deeper into specific issues. The USPTO also has established a new framework for patent eligibility and rolled out a program for amending patents in the America Invents Act reviews.

Bob said that beyond specific policy initiatives, one of the most important things Iancu has tried to do is change the dialogue about the patent system. He also noted Iancu’s campaign against the “patent troll narrative” and the importance of innovation. Bob added that Iancu is “trying to make the Patent Trial and Appeal Board process, the [inter partes review], a much more level playing field for everybody to handle their issues.”
