On Jan. 19, the Fishers, Indiana City Council unanimously approved a planned unit development (PUD) ordinance that will bring the city, and the state, its first IKEA location. Faegre Baker Daniels partner Steve Hardin is representing IKEA in the development and planning process. Hardin told Current in Fishers that the ordinance, which exempted the IKEA building from certain aspects of the city’s unified development standards, stemmed from strong collaboration between the city, developer and business owner.
“One thing that’s of interest and possibly foretelling for the future is this is a really project-specific PUD ordinance,” Hardin said. “You’re seeing exactly what’s being proposed and the plan is to move right into the development and planning process right after this, so this is a really good example of the city working with the developer and business owner on a project-specific PUD ordinance.”
