Murray Clark Discusses the Possibility of Major League Soccer Coming to Indianapolis

Murray Clark, partner at Faegre Baker Daniels and board chairman for the Indiana Soccer Association, was interviewed by The Sporting News on the possibility of a professional soccer team launching in Indianapolis. A group of business executives in Indianapolis has hired soccer executive Peter Wilt, former general manager of MLS' Chicago Fire, to advance its bid to bring a professional soccer team to the city by 2014. "The business acumen of this group is at a very, very high level," said Clark, who is not affiliated with the group pushing for a team. Clark added, "Peter Wilt is well known in soccer circles nationally and brings a real measure of credibility to this effort. This is a very substantive initiative."

A downtown Indianapolis soccer venue would be great "from the soccer association's standpoint," Clark added, but how that would be financed would be up to team owners and city leaders. "With the city's can-do attitude with respect to projects like this, I hope it's doable," he said.
