Washington, D.C., partner Gary Rinkerman traveled to Maastricht University in the Netherlands to participate in the European Intellectual Property Institutes Network (EIPIN) multi-university IP Congress, held January 29-31, 2015. Gary has been a featured presenter at prior EIPIN meetings and was invited by Queen Mary University School of Law in London to attend the current EIPIN sessions to provide input based on US IP law.
EIPIN congresses are held at participating institutes' domiciles, where students from EIPIN members' educational programs meet for an intensive teaching period with outside lecturers from around the world.
The lecturers for the EIPIN sessions included IP professors and practitioners, including the Manager of Government Relations (EU) at eBay, Inc. The topics discussed ranged from IP enforcement methods and options, European and U.S. IP distinctions and overlaps, and emerging approaches to standards and standard-setting in the IP context.
EIPIN was initiated in 1999 to facilitate contacts and increase cooperation among intellectual property institutions and students in Europe. It aims to expose students to top-quality research and outstanding international experts.
