HNBA/Microsoft IP Law Institute Program

Overview

Washington, D.C. partner Bob Stoll spoke at the HNBA/Microsoft IP Law Institute Program on July 11, 2013. The program helps raise interest and opportunities among Hispanic law students for careers in intellectual property law.

Bob spoke about how the America Invents Act created new processes to challenge patents in a quicker, less expensive procedure that would be an alternative to litigation. He also spoke about the importance of broad subject matter eligibility for patents in the areas of software, diagnostic methods and personalized medicine.

Bob explained that these were areas that provided strong economic growth and job creation and that prior art would be a better way to reject these types of patents that were obvious permutations of known processes.
