Private Equity: Villain or Bogeyman?
2023 ABA Antitrust Spring Meeting
Overview
Alicia Batts is presenting on “Private Equity: Villain or Bogeyman?” at the ABA’s Antitrust Spring Meeting. Alicia is joining a panel with Laura Alexander, director of markets and competition at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth; Rahul Rao, deputy director of the Bureau of Competition at the FTC; and Catherine Reilly, counsel for civil operations at DOJ’s Antitrust Division.
DOJ officials echoed FTC Chair Lina Khan’s critique of private equity vis-a-vis antitrust approximately one year ago. The reverberations have been felt in merger reviews (including divestitures), consent decrees and conduct investigations. The panel will take stock of what has stayed the same and what has changed regarding private equity strategies for navigating the agencies.
