Spoofing, Surveillance, & Supervision

Overview

Chicago partner Jim Lundy and counsel Nicholas Wendland will discuss “Spoofing, Surveillance, & Supervision” for a Futures Industry Association (FIA) webinar on January 17, 2019.

Since the Department of Justice obtained its first criminal conviction for spoofing and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) reached its first enforcement settlement for spoofing a few years ago, the CFTC and the futures exchanges have expanded their efforts in this area to investigate and charge firms with supervisory failures. These enforcement efforts accelerated over the past year as futures regulators continue to prioritize spoofing cases, while now also as a matter of course investigating the supervisory policies and procedures and surveillance processes that firms need to detect and attempt to prevent this manipulative market activity. In this webinar, Jim and Nicholas will explore the increased regulatory enforcement focus on firms’ supervision and surveillance, and how to utilize supervisory and surveillance efforts to best manage these risks.
