Libel-Proofing Your PR Campaign

#MeToo Lessons for Responding to Whistleblowers

The #MeToo movement has brought to light a multitude of cases in which public figures have been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct. While these stories have prompted deeper discussion about the cultural underpinnings of such widespread alleged misconduct, they have also generated some highly interesting libel claims. For instance: Individual accuses public figure of inappropriate behavior. Public figure issues denial. Accuser sues for libel, claiming he or she has been labeled a liar. In looking at what protections exist for defending oneself in the court of public opinion, courts are reaching seemingly irreconcilable conclusions.

During this webinar, we’ll take a closer look at these recent cases and extract lessons on how your companies can publicly defend themselves from accusations by whistleblowers — whether those accusations relate to harassment or other corporate misconduct — without risking a libel lawsuit.
