Overview of New Jersey New Telemedicine Law

Florham Park partner George Kendall recently presented an overview of New Jersey’s Telemedicine Act at the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA)’s program “Telehealth: Clinical, Practical and Legal/Regulatory Implications.”

The New Jersey Telemedicine Act became effective on July 21, 2017. The Act establishes telemedicine practice standards and imposes telehealth coverage requirements for commercial health plans, New Jersey Medicaid and other payers.

George’s presentation, “Overview of New Jersey’s New Telemedicine Law,” opened the NJHA program. The presentation discussed the following topics related to the new legislation’s effect on providers and patients:

  • Establishing a proper provider-patient relationship
  • Permitted telemedicine technologies
  • Issuance of prescriptions
  • Payment for telemedicine services
  • Further regulations and oversight
