Global Competition Review Recognizes Alicia Batts as a Top 2021 Woman in Antitrust

Antitrust partner Alicia Batts has been selected for the sixth edition of Global Competition Review’s (GCR) Women in Antitrust, which celebrates the standout careers of more than 130 of the antitrust community’s leading female private practitioners, enforcers, in-house counsel, economists and academics.

In her 2021 profile, GCR highlighted Batts’s favorite aspect of working in antitrust for 30 years. “I enjoy helping companies accomplish their strategic goals and grow their businesses. As a trusted adviser, I like getting to know my clients, finding creative solutions to business challenges and obtaining approval for complex transactions,” she said. Batts also explained that some of her most rewarding career experiences “have been helping clients increase their market share significantly through game-changing acquisitions and transformative transactions.”

Additionally, Batts noted the strong mentors she has had throughout her career, as well as female role models who taught her how to balance being a great partner and a mother. She thanked those who “went above and beyond when I was a young attorney by giving me opportunities to present, providing great feedback and sharing their wisdom.”

When asked how the field has changed since she started, particularly for female practitioners and enforcers, Batts said, “I’m glad to see more up-and-coming female competition attorneys. However, I hope to see more diversity in the future, especially women of color in senior-levels in the antitrust enforcement agencies, in private practice and serving as chief competition counsel to corporations.”

A former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) attorney, Batts’s practice at Faegre Drinker includes the full range of antitrust and unfair competition-related counsel and litigation, including consumer protection matters before the FTC and state authorities and international merger enforcement. She is a trusted advocate for clients facing sensitive, nonpublic antitrust and unfair competition-related matters, as well as multijurisdictional matters. Batts also represents high-profile clients in class actions and competitor suits.

For over two decades, GCR has recognized women at the forefront of competition law who have made groundbreaking contributions to the ever-changing, increasingly globalized competition landscape.
