Product liability and mass torts practice deputy leader and co-chair of the health & life sciences litigation team Michael C. Zogby has been named an inaugural 2021 “Leaders in Law” honoree by NJBIZ, one of New Jersey’s premier business news publications. The “Leaders in Law” awards program honors the top echelon of New Jersey legal professionals – leading lawyers, managing partners, and general counsels – whose dedication to their occupation and to their communities is outstanding. Following an open nomination period, honorees were chosen by a panel of independent judges with experience in the justice system.
Zogby, a trial partner in the firm’s Florham Park office, represents multinational clients in litigation and risk management related to aggregated proceedings and product liability and mass tort claims.
In an exclusive profile, Zogby spoke with the NJBIZ about what he enjoys most about his career and how it has grown over the year. Zogby told the publication that he enjoys the different places his work takes him – from Tokyo to small towns in the Rockies – and the clients and teammates with whom he works. “I am working with unbelievably talented attorneys and business people at life science clients, as well as at my firm, and to see the energy and drive of my colleagues and clients is heartening and encouraging,” said Zogby. In terms of his greatest contributions, he said: “I hope that my greatest contribution is leading by example, and managing with compassion and empathy for partners and coworkers. Additionally, throughout my career I have focused on improving the professionalism and ethics of the bar.”
When asked how he’s seen his role as a “leader in law” evolve, Zogby noted that “as our firm and practice have grown, so too does the requirements as a leader in law.” He attributes this growth to why he spends time helping new attorneys, teaching trial advocacy in Charlottesville, working with diverse talent, working to improve the professionalism of the bar, and serving in leadership positions in “life science groups and national product liability groups through which I can work with others to create new opportunities for people and develop a path for product development and innovation.”
Additionally, the NJBIZ asked Zogby what would surprise others to find out about him. He talked about being an Eagle Scout and his appreciation for time outdoors. “I don’t think most of my colleagues – before 2020 – ever saw me without a tie, so they would probably be surprised to learn that most weekends I am outdoors with my kids covered in mud,” shared Zogby.
The 2021 “Leaders in Law” honorees are profiled in a special section of NJBIZ, and a virtual event showcasing honorees was presented on May 13. More information and a list of the honorees can be found here.
