Indiana Bar Foundation Honors FaegreBD Attorneys With Pro Bono Publico Award

On December 8, the Indiana Bar Foundation (IBF) presented Faegre Baker Daniels’ Jessica Hockemeyer and Michael Gastineau with the foundation’s Pro Bono Publico Award. They received the award from IBF President Amy Noe Dudas at the IBF annual civic education and civil justice awards dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The pair was honored for their work on the Indiana Free Legal Answers website, which allows low-income Hoosiers a chance to ask Indiana attorneys questions about civil legal issues.

In total, Gastineau, Hockemeyer and a third recipient answered 250 questions, or 37% of the organization’s 2018 total.

The Fort Wayne and Indianapolis north side offices have led the way in developing monthly virtual clinics where lawyers gather to answer community legal questions through the online program, but Gastineau and Hockemeyer have gone beyond that monthly clinic. They answer pro bono questions online throughout the year, and Gastineau even made a commitment to himself to try to answer one pro bono question per day.

Gastinaeu and Hockemeyer's efforts led to national recognition by the American Bar Association earlier this year.

Gastineau and Hockemeyer, and all of the firm’s Indiana Free Legal Answers volunteers, have helped many low-income Hoosiers in need through this innovative online pro bono platform.

Pro Bono Manager Monica Fennell was honored as a new IBF Fellow. Fellows are recognized for professional, public and private careers which have demonstrated outstanding legal ability and devotion to the welfare of their community, state and nation, as well as to the advancement of the legal profession.

ABOUT THE INDIANA BAR FOUNDATION

The Indiana Bar Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to strengthening access to justice and appreciation for the rule of law in Indiana. To accomplish our mission, we gather and direct resources toward three areas: providing civic education to Hoosiers of all ages, assisting those who have difficulty accessing the justice system, and improving the legal profession. Educating tomorrow's leaders. Expanding civil justice. Aiding the profession.
