Bob Stoll Offers 2019 IP Predictions in IPWatchdog Feature

Washington, D.C., partner and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Group Bob Stoll was quoted in the IPWatchdog article “Looking Forward: Predictions and Thoughts for 2019.” Bob shared his predictions about USPTO Director Andrei Iancu’s next moves, as well as potential developments in patent subject matter eligibility.

While Bob does not anticipate any significant action on the legislative or judicial front on IP this year, he believes Director Iancu will continue to use rule-making to improve processes at the USPTO, and that 2019 will be a building year. Bob also predicted deepening discussions surrounding patent subject matter eligibility, as well as discussions about the need for a sui generis right to protect patent filings related to artificial intelligence, cyber security, 5G-related innovations, personalized medicine, cloud computing, processes manipulating big data and autonomous vehicles.
