Katherine Armstrong Discusses FTC Scrutiny of Privacy Policies in Bloomberg Law

Washington, D.C., counsel Katherine Armstrong was quoted in a Bloomberg Law article titled “FTC Could Police U.S. Companies’ Promises on EU Data Privacy Law.” The article discusses the trend of U.S. companies updating their privacy policies in response to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which took effect May 25. Companies should be aware that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) can initiate an enforcement action against a company that does not comply with the promises in its updated privacy policy. Katherine explained that company promises of GDPR-style protections to customers may invite FTC scrutiny, stating that the FTC “will be looking at what sort of claims companies are making about their GDPR compliance.”
