Jason R. Baron Appointed to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee

Washington, D.C., of counsel Jason R. Baron was appointed by the Archivist of the United States to serve as a Representative Member of the 2018-2020 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee. Jason’s appointment is for a two-year term beginning in June 2018.

The FOIA Advisory Committee was established by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in 2014 to foster dialogue between the government and the requester community, solicit public comments, and develop consensus recommendations for improving the FOIA administration. The committee consists of 10 voting members from within the federal government and 10 non-governmental voting members, all of whom have considerable FOIA expertise.

Prior to joining Drinker Biddle, Jason served for 33 years in the federal government, including as the first appointed Director of Litigation at NARA (2000-2013), and as a trial lawyer and senior counsel at the Department of Justice. In both of those roles, Jason assisted in the defense of lawsuits filed against the Archivist of the United States and the Executive Office of the President, under the Freedom of Information Act, the Federal Records Act and the Presidential Records Act, in a wide variety of high-profile cases including involving White House email.
