Janet Fries Featured in D.C. Bar Bulletin’s Member Spotlight

Janet Fries, senior of counsel in Washington, D.C., was featured in the D.C. Bar Bulletin’s member spotlight on March 22, 2018. The feature, “Reinventing Janet,” originally appeared in the January 2012 issue of Washington Lawyer and describes her experience as a professional photographer whose work has been featured in national publications such as Time, People and Fortune, as well as in galleries such as the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Oakland Museum of California and National Portrait Gallery. The article follows the trajectory of her photography career, which began in college, and highlights her experiences photographing prominent subjects including Harvey Milk, Jim Jones and Sandra Day O’Connor. From her experience with Justice O’Connor, she drew a connection to her future legal career, saying, “[I]t occurred to me that I could get a legal education that would allow me to work with photography and visual arts through the law.” Now in her 17th year at Drinker Biddle, Janet focuses her practice on copyright and trademark law, entertainment law and media law, and is an active member of Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts.
