Addressing the HBRT’s increased functionality, she said, “We expect health care industry participants to use the tool not only to flag which of their competitors/vendors/partners need to improve HIPAA compliance, but also to view the range of common vulnerabilities… we expect health care industry participants to learn from each other’s HIPAA-related growing pains.” Furthermore, Sumaya highlighted that “industry stakeholders can look to this current list of investigations to determine who breached, why they breached, and whether there are any new trends of which they should be aware.”
Sumaya stated that the new tool “makes it easier—and faster—to find the information you are looking for” and that the new HBRT is “nudging the industry” toward greater awareness and accountability for health care cybersecurity, as envisioned in the Health Care Cybersecurity Industry Task Force Report published on June 2, 2017.
