Jason R. Baron Quoted on Federal News Radio Regarding the OGIS’s Elevated Role Following the New FOIA Law

Washington D.C. Of Counsel Jason R. Baron was quoted in a Federal News Radio article titled, “DoJ prompts agencies to get the ball rolling on new FOIA law.”

President Barack Obama signed the FOIA Improvement Act of 2016 to mark FOIA’s 50th anniversary. As the DoJ releases the first series of guidelines for implementing this new law, agencies are urged to begin updating their standard Freedom of Information Act response letters and notices to comply with the new provisions. Jason discussed how reminding the public about the options the DoJ has provided following the new law elevates the role of the OGIS and will bring more attention to the services it provides.

“The fact that agency letters will now highlight the existence of OGIS will help, as I don’t think OGIS is well known at this point to many people.  I suspect that OGIS will have many more incoming requests.”
