New York partner Jerry Hathaway was quoted in a Law360 article titled, “The Top Employment Regulations Of 2016.” The article covers several of the biggest regulatory developments in the employment space over the past year.
One of those changes is the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) new EEO-1 Report. The new report builds on the current EEO-1 form by asking for information regarding the number of workers within 12 specified pay bands. The current EEO-1 form only collected data about race, gender, ethnicity and job category for businesses with 100 or more workers. The first deadline for the report is March 2018. Jerry noted that the updated form will be a time-consuming process for employers to compile data that wasn’t previously necessary to track.
“The question is, what value does this data have?” Jerry said. “It’s highly burdensome on employers and not likely to yield anything meaningful.”
