Former FTC Attorney Katherine Armstrong Joins Drinker Biddle’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Group

Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP has added Katherine Armstrong, a former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) attorney, to its Government and Regulatory Affairs Group as Counsel; she will reside in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

“Katherine brings in-depth experience as a government regulator and enhances our ability to help clients solve their data and privacy issues. Her arrival continues the growth of our Washington, D.C. office and our Government and Regulatory Affairs Group. We’re excited to have her join the firm,” said Andrew C. Kassner, Chairman and CEO of Drinker Biddle.

Ms. Armstrong spent more than 30 years at the FTC, where she was most recently a Senior Attorney in the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection. She managed Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) initiatives, including law enforcement investigations and consent negotiations, and oversaw a range of other interpretive policy matters.

While at the FTC, she was deeply involved in the study and analysis of data broker and big data issues, and was part of the team responsible for the May 2014 Commission report, “Data Brokers: A Call for Transparency and Accountability.” She served as an advisor to former FTC Chairman Janet Steiger and Commissioner Sheila Anthony, and provided counseling on matters of consumer protection policy and enforcement.

“Katherine’s extensive FTC expertise and roster of contacts mesh very well with the firm’s privacy practice and she will add her perspective to other practice areas including litigation, intellectual property and antitrust,” said Government and Regulatory Affairs Group Chair Laura Phillips “She significantly enhances the profile of our already notable data privacy practice and strengthens our ability to serve clients in a sophisticated and integrated manner.”

Ms. Armstrong was most recently Counsel in Hogan Lovells Privacy and Information Management group. She earned her law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School and her bachelor’s degree from Pitzer College.
