Jason R. Baron Interviewed on WBUR’s Here & Now Show

Washington, D.C. of counsel Jason R. Baron was interviewed on WBUR’s (Boston’s NPR station) Here & Now show, regarding University of Illinois senior officials’ use of private email accounts for official business and how that raises flags under state public record laws.

Jason explained that written communications of public university officials, unlike telephone conversations, may constitute public records subject to state Freedom of Information Act laws.   “There is a difference under the laws that exist about conversations that are memorialized in texts, and so whether we’re talking about traditional documents, or emails, or even text messages, there’s an expectation that the public has a right to know about what officials in public institutions are doing,” he said.
