Play by FaegreBD Partner Scott Wright to Premier in London

Faegre Baker Daniels is pleased to announce the debut of a timely new play entitled Regulation 18B – No Free Man. Written and spearheaded by the firm’s labor and employment group chair, Scott Wright, the play is a historical drama based on actual events during World War II.The production will be performed by an invited cast, all members of leading amateur group the Wokingham Theatre. A panel discussion sponsored by FaegreBD will follow all performances, featuring pre-eminent figures in the legal community including retired circuit judge and former president of the Law Society, Charles Elly, and Frances Gibb, legal editor at The Times.

Following a start at the Cookham Festival and tour of regional theatres, the play will make its London debut at the historic Gray’s Inn. The Inn is home of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, the distinguished membership body comprising one of the four Inns of Court in England and Wales.

Regulation 18B touches on liberty and the rule of law, themes which continue to strongly resonate in the modern world and which take on special significance in this the 800th anniversary year of Magna Carta. The production will debut at the Cookham Festival on May 15 and will tour other regional theatres before heading to London’s historic Gray’s Inn on July 2.

 “In countries around the world we are still grappling with the question of how we balance the need for security with the demands and respect for civil liberties,” Wright said. “I have endeavored to highlight this struggle through the play’s focus on one evening in England in November 1941, and three individuals who have different perspectives on what’s at stake. I am appreciative and honored to bring this, my first play, to Gray’s Inn, as it is an institution that Lord Atkin cared for very deeply. I would like to thank my colleagues and friends for their support of the play, and particularly, John Castell, producer, whose knowledge of theatre and tireless efforts have made these performances possible.”
