Alicia Hickok Quoted in September 2014 Law360

Philadelphia partner Alicia Hickok was quoted in a Law360 article titled, "Pennsylvania Venue Transfer Ruling Could Help Cases Exit Philly."

The article discussed a recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision that reaffirmed the broad discretion of trial judges to grant venue transfers based on travel burdens faced by key defense witnesses.

Alicia said that, by clarifying the factors a trial court could consider and limiting the strict standard in Cheeseman to the counties right around Philadelphia, the Supreme Court justices sent a strong message to the Superior Court to allow trial judges to weigh the facts in particular cases.

“They said to let trial courts do what trial courts do best. That’s a very strong message to the Superior Court that, in instances like this, there had better be a very good reason why they say it isn’t good enough. They are not looking for the Superior Court to be second-guessing and micromanaging,” she said.
