Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP announced that Ashley Pezzner, a highly regarded intellectual property lawyer, has joined the firm.  Pezzner is known for his experience in patent counseling, opinions, interferences, prosecution and reexaminations in the chemical, biotech, biomedical and pharmaceutical fields.

Pezzner will be joined at Drinker by a team of six other experienced patent lawyers, including:  Counsel Hui-Ju Wu, Ph.D. and Geoffrey Zelley; Of Counsel Hal Pezzner; and Associates Daniel Rube, Ph.D., Claudia Schultze, Ph.D., and Larry Williams, Ph.D.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ashley to our firm,” said Alfred W. Putnam Jr., Chairman of Drinker Biddle & Reath.  “Ashley’s pioneering work in complex patent prosecution for Fortune 100 clients brings additional strength to our already distinguished intellectual property practice nationwide.  We are particularly pleased to add this practice to our office in Delaware, where strength in intellectual property is so highly valued.”

Before joining Drinker Biddle, Pezzner was for many years a partner of Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP and since January 2013 a partner at Novak Druce, successor by merger to Connolly Bove, where he handled complex patent prosecutions and intellectual property matters for German and U.S. corporations.  Pezzner was Co-Chair of the Patent Prosecution and Counseling Group at Connolly Bove; and he was on the Executive Committee at Novak Druce.  Before becoming a lawyer, Pezzner was a chemical patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where he worked in the inorganic, organic and polymer fields of the Agency.

“I am delighted to be joining Drinker Biddle” said Pezzner.  “Drinker Biddle’s reputation and range of practices made the firm a first choice affiliation for me.”

Pezzner holds a B.S.  with a Major in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Carolina, an M.A.S. from Johns Hopkins University and a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.  He is admitted before the USPTO, the U.S. District Court of Delaware and the State Courts of Delaware and Maryland.
