Ron Gifford Named Indy Partnership President and CEO

INDIANAPOLIS – Ronald D. Gifford, a lawyer at Baker & Daniels LLP for the last 22 years, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Indy Partnership. He will oversee all operations for the regional economic development group that focuses on marketing and business attraction for 10 Central Indiana counties, starting Dec. 1. Gifford will transition his legal practice and clients at Baker & Daniels by Jan. 1.

Gifford's legal practice at Baker & Daniels focused on government affairs and life sciences, which included counseling clients in business and regulatory matters. As both an advocate and adviser, his business clients ranged from the region's largest companies and leading private equity funds to start-up entrepreneurs. Gifford also helped create and promote the economic development agenda for the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, the parent organization of the Indy Partnership.

"This was not an easy decision to leave the Baker & Daniels family and venture into a new role," said Gifford, a partner with the firm for the past 16 years. "People at the firm have been my closest friends, colleagues and confidants, and the debt of gratitude I owe to them is endless.

"But the Indy Partnership presents some great opportunities that excite and challenge me," Gifford added. "It's a rare opportunity to be given the chance to make a meaningful and substantial contribution to the community. I couldn't pass up that opportunity."

At Baker & Daniels, Gifford has been active in legislative issues at the Indiana Statehouse, helping draft the law creating the 21st Century Research and Technology Fund. He also assisted in the development of the venture capital tax credit and expansion of uses for the state's EDGE grants.

"Over the years, Ron has been an outstanding leader in Baker & Daniels' commitment to provide our clients with the most thorough, honest and ethical service possible," said Brian K. Burke, the firm's CEO and Chairman. "He has been a true professional in every sense of the word. We will miss him greatly, but we wish him the very best. He will serve the region and its economic development efforts well."

Gifford has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and Indiana Super Lawyers. He authors a monthly column - "There Ought To Be a Law" - in the Indianapolis Business Journal and received the 2007 Best in Business Award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

Gifford currently serves on the board of directors for Child Advocates and the Indiana Repertory Theatre. He graduated magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center after earning a bachelor's degree with distinction from the University of Michigan.
